01 Answer first
How can a buyer verify a supplier reference for a water bottling plant?
Obtain permission, confirm who may disclose what, identify the actual supplied boundary and project dates, compare the reference product, bottle, pack, output basis, utilities, automation, services, and destination with the proposed project, then record what was confirmed, what was opinion, what was unavailable, and what cannot be generalized.
02 Where it fits
Position in the project journey
Supplier evaluation — after requirements are issued and before final selection.
03 Buyer inputs
What the buyer should prepare
- Proposed project requirement and scope summary
- Reference-match criteria and approved interview questions
- Permission, confidentiality, data-handling, and contact rules
- Named reviewers and a method for scoring evidence limits
04 Allot Tech and manufacturing-resource inputs
What should be clarified or provided
- Authorized reference route and declared supplied scope
- Project timing, equipment identity, services, and evidence available for review
- Known differences between the reference and proposed project
- Written clarification for follow-up technical or service questions
Allot Tech coordinates requirement, quotation and project communication. Detailed engineering, manufacture, testing, documentation and confirmed service are performed by selected manufacturing resources according to the signed scope.
05 Technical scope
Questions and work to control
Confirm Permission and the Reference Boundary
Use supplier-arranged or independently authorized contact routes and respect confidentiality. Record the customer role, project country, approximate timing, supplied systems, excluded work, installation and commissioning boundary, and current operating status. Do not publish customer names, contact data, production records, or private comments without clear permission.
Compare Like With Like
Map the reference against the proposed source water, product category, bottle and closure, label and pack, operating calendar, line boundary, automation, utilities, environment, local contractor model, acceptance method, and service arrangement. Differences do not invalidate a reference, but they reduce what can responsibly be inferred.
Ask Evidence-Seeking Questions
Ask how requirements were clarified, which interfaces caused rework, how changes were controlled, what FAT and site evidence was used, which buyer-side conditions affected startup, how documents and spares were handed over, and how support requests were routed. Avoid asking for confidential prices or unqualified performance claims.
Record Limits and Follow-Up Actions
Classify each statement as verified document, direct observation, customer opinion, supplier statement, unavailable information, or follow-up item. Give the reference appropriate weight alongside technical review, factory inspection where justified, contract review, and independent due diligence.
Buyer questions answered
Practical answers before you request a quotation
How many references are enough?
There is no universal number. Use a risk-based sample that covers the most important scope, format, geography, and support questions.
Is a video of a running line a reference?
It may show visible equipment behavior at one moment, but it does not establish identity, ownership, conditions, saleable output, acceptance, or support performance.
Can a supplier refuse direct customer contact?
Confidentiality may limit access. Record the limitation and seek other appropriate evidence rather than treating an unavailable reference as verified.
06 Responsibility
Assign the owner before the work is due
Land, building and civil work, permits, import and customs, local taxes, site utilities, unloading, lifting, local labor, travel support and commissioning materials are not automatically included. Confirm every responsibility before order.
07 Common risks
What commonly creates avoidable uncertainty
- A reference covers one machine but is presented as a turnkey plant
- Different formats or site conditions are ignored
- Private customer information is collected or published without permission
- Opinion is scored as verified performance evidence
08 Acceptance or completion
How to know the stage is complete
The reference review states permission, relevance, confirmed facts, material differences, evidence limits, unresolved questions, and the weight assigned in the supplier decision.
09 Required documents
Records that support the decision
- Reference permission and scope note
- Project-to-reference comparison matrix
- Interview record with evidence classification
- Follow-up and decision-weight record
Evidence basis
Official references and project limits
These primary sources support the general planning principles used in this guide. The rules, evidence and responsible authority for the actual project country must still be confirmed locally.
10 Next project step
Turn this decision into a reviewable project brief
Share the product, container, target output, destination and available site information. Unknown inputs can remain open for the first review.
Turnkey scope is project-specific and is defined by the signed technical and commercial agreement.
